Adult Clinic this Saturday 1/12 @Ice Works 4:30pm rink 2
Men and Women welcome!
This is going to be a very different type of clinic.
For those of you that know me, you know I always come with a plan.
I would like to structure this clinic a little differently.
I am going to ask you the participants for suggestions on what you would like to work on.
Based on this feedback, I will design a curriculum of progression drills to help you achieve those goals.
For anyone that has taken a clinic or lesson from me, you know I feel that a progression format is the best way to learn a new or challenging skill.
Send me your suggestions now, and I will develop a custom plan to help you conquer your skating and stick handling challenges.
All suggestions are welcome and you can send more than one.
2012 Spring Skills Clinics!
Instructed by Donna Helgenberg
Ice-Works
I will be running the 5-week series of hockey skills clinics at Ice-works.
Below is just an example of the skills covered.
~ Week 1 - Forward aggressive skating, stopping, and puck possession
~ Week 2 - Stable backward skating, stopping, and puck possession
~ Week 3 - Controlling the puck for corners, curves, x-overs,
and power turns
~ Week 4 - Transitions, pivots, mohawks, and puck possession
~ Week 5 - Strength, Agility, Stamina, and Power
<<<<< See below for registration >>>>>
My extensive background in hockey, speed skating, and figure skating have provided me with the knowledge and experience to be recognized as a very effective hockey skills and power skating coach. Over the past several years, I have lectured, coached, and trained athletes, hockey coaches, and skating professionals, across the United States.
My philosophy for running clinics is very simple – teach! This is why my clinics focus on teaching technique and making the athlete understand how and why skills are done a certain way. Each participant will not only improve his/her technique, but he/she will also gain a better understanding and knowledge of why and how each skill is needed or performed.
For Questions, please contact me by email or phone.

This clinic will focus on skating technique including stride analysis,
the mastering of turns and transitions, edge quality,
backwards skating, and stopping and starting.
I will also do some balance, agility, and stability drills that challenge the skater beyond the arena of normal skating for hockey.
All of this will be followed by an on-ice stamina and conditioning section that focuses on different energy systems and is designed to train the efficiency of power, stamina and endurance, as well as sprinting speed and quickness.
By utilizing my speed skating background, I will introduce these things in a fun environment that includes point-to-point races as well as circuit races.
By doing it this way, the skater is driven not by an individual effort similar to time trials, but she is driven by the challenge of the skater alongside of her.
This takes one's focus off the fact that she is tired and channels one's energy into winning.
*This will be encouraged during the stamina training section of the clinic but discouraged during the technique training as I believe every skater needs the opportunity to learn at his or her own pace.
